Laser Marking with Thermark Application – Aston Martin

The laser marking of a foot plate was processed as follows. First of all, the aluminium is processed using a surface additive, in order to produce a high contrast from the laser marking. The thermark coating is applied, and then the marking is processed. Where the laser contacts the thermark coating, the interactions leaves a permanent mark on the material. The remaining thermark can then simply be washed away.

Whilst this process was undertaken using Nd:YAG, CO2 laser marking can also be used on aluminium. As you can see from the image, the end result is of  a very high quality. A foot plate in a car, will of course, be subject to a high degree of wear and tear, so the durability of the marking is essential. This permanent process means there is no wear and tear.
