Laser Engraving Near Dorking on Acrylic – Carville Plastics
In this case study we visit our customer Carville Plastics. We do laser engraving on a number of their acrylic products. The information that is engraved on the product is product identification and product branding. Although Carville has been taken over by Festo recently and have said that production will resume in the course of 2025.

Laser engraving acrylic is done on either our inhouse CO2 galvo system with a f-180 F-theta lens or on our inhouse Lightblade 1490, The marking processes for either machine are completely different in terms of: – How they process, and the speed of the process.
The CO2 galvo system is a very fast and accurate marking process, but can be limited to workable field size, whereas the Lightblade is a slower process, but can have a very large working area. Our inhouse Lightblade 1490 has a processing area of 1400 x 900mm.

Due to the nature of the differing machines, the jigging process is also very different. For the Lightblade we would normally use a corner jig to locate each component. Similarly on the galvo for a flat piece the corner jig would be used, however for round parts, we would use a ‘V’ jig to locate the round component centrally.
