Laser Engraving Near Richmond on Rubber – Hallite Seals

In this case study we visit our customer Hallite Seals. We currently do laser engraving on their range of Aeon rubber springs. The range consists of two sizes of rubber springs a large and a small. The information that is engraved on the product is product identification and manufacturing traceability.

Laser engraving rubber is done on our inhouse CO2 galvo system with a f-180 F-theta lens, the marking process of this particular component takes approximately 10 seconds. As can be seen from the video, the product is laser engraved with one heavy pass in order to establish the required depth of mark on the rubber, due to the interaction with the rubber there is no need to have either a secondary cleanup pass or to mark the outline of the text, so saving time and expense for the customer.

For these parts a very rudimentary jig is used to locate the part, as can be seen in the video. On these components there is no requirement for a high tolerance on position. So the use of this jig is ideal as it has the required two end stops for a rotary part, as well as being made out of wood as to not damage the rubber on part location. For better tolerances or more detailed parts, separate bespoke jig can be made and used by ourselves.
