In this case study we visit our customer Gate 7. We did laser marking on their black anodised aluminium labels for their assortment of customer. The laser marking of anodised aluminium is an industry standard and in this particular case study you can see repeatability of the laser marking.
Laser marking of black anodised aluminium, in this case, was done on our inhouse flash lamp Nd:YAG laser system with a f-180 F-theta lens, the marking process was normally about a minute to process, but this could be vastly improved on the newer Fiber lasers, with just as much contrast as on the older Nd:YAG system. The product is laser marked in one pass with an outline added afterwards to ensure that the writing is crisp and sharp.
The component is located in a simple corner jigg which allows the standard shapes of the anodised aluminium plates to be easily positioned enabling faster throughput of the parts and therefore lower cost for the customer. These marks are repeatable to a greater accuracy than 0.1mm. For better tolerances or more detailed parts, separate bespoke jig can be made and used by ourselves.
