In this case study we visit our customer SteakStones . For this customer we did laser marking of wood serving plates. In this case the laser marking was onto Bamboo wood and our role was to provide deep product branding for our customer as a unique selling point to their customer, to distinguish themselves from the competition.

Due to the material being used in the serving plates being bamboo. The only really choice was one of our CO2 lasers. For speed purpose you can use our CO2 Galvo system. However for deep laser marking, we would normally recommend using our Lightblade CO2 Flatbed Laser Cutting and Engraving Machine. This is to keep the beam perpendicular to the work piece, for the full expanse of the marking area.

Laser marking wood products using CO2 lasers works really well as wood absorbs the Co2 wavelength really well for crisp sharp images. The only curve ball that you will have to experience is that wood is a natural product and therefore it can be different from piece to piece and from even within the same piece of wood. As the year rings tend to be more dense than the surrounding wood, therefore requires more power than the surrounding wood. But as long as you can observe these differences and compensate according. The results look amazing

For these components being laser marked, a standard corner jigg was used to locate and hold the components in place and in the correct orientation. These marks are repeatable to a greater accuracy than 0.1mm.
