Laser Marking Services Near Salfords on ABS Plastic – Retrotouch

In this case study we visit our nearby customer Retrotouch. We currently do laser marking on a variety of their sockets for identification of switches within homes and businesses. The laser marking of ABS is an industry standard and in this particular case study you can see repeatability of the laser marking on several types of sockets.

Laser marking ABS, in this case, is done on our inhouse flash lamp Nd:YAG laser system with a f-180 F-theta lens, the marking process will vary depending on the text size and shape that is used. As can be seen from the video, the product is laser marked in one pass with an outline added afterwards to ensure that the writing is crisp and sharp.

The component is located in a special jigg which allows the standard socket to be inserted accurately inside it without causing any unwanted damage to the outer face of the sockets. This then in turn is located in one of our standard corner jigg. To enable faster throughput of the parts and therefore lower cost for the customer, two jiggs are used so that whilst one jigg, with product, is being laser marked the other jigg can be emptied and reloaded with a new socket. These marks are repeatable to a greater accuracy than 0.1mm. For better tolerances or more detailed parts, separate bespoke jig can be made and used by ourselves.
